Specialized StudyUC Irvine Extension's fully-online Specialized Studies Program in Wine Management offers a practical content-based and comprehensive educational learning pathway designed for individuals seeking a career change or career advancement within the wine/food business, and related retail trade industries. This multidisciplinary program, taught by highly experienced and credential instructors, encompasses grape growing and wine making; food and wine pairing; history of wines; types of wine products available, and classification of major worldwide wine producing regions. Students can complete the specialized studies program within one year The UC Irvine Extension Specialized Studies Program in Wine Management is the only university-level wine study program designed especially for wine professionals.

English Proficiency Requirement
All certificate programs at UC Irvine Extension (classroom and online formats) require professional-level English language proficiency in listening and note-taking, reading comprehension and vocabulary, written expression, and oral presentation. Who Should Attend

The specialized studies program is designed for individuals already working in the wine industry or those who seek to enter the career field. Additionally, the program is appropriate for professionals seeking to develop and increase their wine comprehension preparing them to sit for the two major wine certification credentials: Certified Specialist of Wine (offered by The Society of Wine Educators) and Master Sommelier (offered by The Court of Master Sommeliers).

Program Requirements

A specialized studies certificate is awarded upon successful completion of 90 hours (9 units) of study. All course work must be completed within a five year period.
