- How long does it take to know if I've been admitted into the program?
You will be notified by mail of your acceptance into the program after completing all of the steps in the application process and meeting all of the requirements.
- How long does it usually take to get the certificate?
This is a part-time program. Courses take place Monday through Thursday, usually 6:30-9:30pm one evening per week. Most students are working full-time an may take more than one course per quarter; therefore, most students take between 15 months to 2 years to complete the program.
- How many hours do I need outside of class to prepare (i.e., to complete reading assignments and homework etc.)?
The Paralegal courses are conducted at the university level. Therefore, plan on at least 3 hours per in-classroom hour to prepare for class. Some courses require significantly more time outside of class to complete assignments.
- May I transfer other paralegal courses, taken at other paralegal schools, for credit at UC Irvine Extension?
We do not accept the transfer of any outside courses, from any other schools, toward the paralegal program at UC Irvine Extension. In other words, all the courses toward the certificate must be completed at UC Irvine Extension in order for you to earn the certificate from UC Irvine Extension.
- May I transfer paralegal courses from UC Irvine Extension to other paralegal schools?
You should contact the school you want to transfer to and ask them whether they'll accept UC Irvine Extension’s courses toward their certificate.
- All I want to do is go to law school. Which of your courses can help me for law school?
There are two courses in the program that can be of help in particular to those preparing to enter law school: Legal Writing, and Legal Research.
