Women's Opportunities Center / CareerLife Planning
Options for New Beginnings

“The UC Irvine Career/Life Planning Program is awesome for anyone who has lost their job or just going through a career change. It not only provides excellent information in all areas of a job search but, it also feels like a support group when you are going through such a major life change. The staff and volunteers go above and beyond to provide any assistance that is needed. The individual workshops are extremely informative and what was so great is that the material presented was up-to-date with market requirements. One of the most valuable benefits of the workshops is networking with other members of the program. I have and will continue to recommend the program to those in the market for a new job.”   –   Paula Pavlovsky, Executive Assistant, Ingram Micro

Our History

CareerLife Planning programs began as a UC Irvine Extension community service organization in 1970, when three women, Lou Anderson, Sylvia Lenhoff and Muriel Shishkoff, had a vision to create an outreach program to serve women in career transition. The Women’s Opportunities Center was born in the entrance of UC Irvine’s Crawford Hall Gymnasium, consisting of a table, three chairs, and a telephone.

In 1992, the Rachel Long Morgan Women’s Opportunities Center building, including counseling rooms, a resource library, and a computer lab, was built on the UC Irvine campus through funds raised by community donations. Over the past decade, our programs have grown to meet the needs of men and women in career and life transition. In 2005, we began to offer programs and services that support community members transitioning to retirement. Today, the Women’s Opportunities Center provides a welcoming environment for clients in all of our CareerLife Planning Programs.
