GATE (Fall 2009)

Complete GATE Webinar Series for Parents (Section 1)

As districts struggle with dwindling budgets and staggering layoffs, schools are finding it harder to sustain and further develop programs for gifted and talented students. Now more than ever, these students require academic and emotional support away from the classroom. This month-long webinar series is specially designed to help parents of the gifted better understand and more effectively support their high ability learners. The first seminar, hosted by David Palmer, Ph.D., will review the benefits and limitations of IQ testing, compare various score profiles, and review prevalent traits of high ability learners. The second seminar, hosted by Annie Mai Bevacqua, M.S., will identify practical ways to support, nurture, and manage the psychological needs of high ability learners both at home and within the school setting. The third seminar, hosted by Darlene Boyd, Ed.D., will expose parents to contemporary strategies for visionary thinking and the rationale for differentiated curriculum. The final seminar, hosted by Katie Hickox, M.A., will provide parents with tips and techniques for increasing academic motivation in the home by nurturing inquiry and study systems. This registration option provides parents with access to all four webinar events and recorded sessions for a discounted fee.
