The Wines of Spain (Section 1)

An elective course in the Specialized Studies Program in Wine.
Spain is one of the most important countries in the world of wine with the largest acreage planted to vines. Spanish wines are among the most popular and fast-growing imports into the U.S. due to its food-friendly style, unique varietals, value proposition, and being a producer of a wide-range of wines from light-bodied white wines, full-bodied reds, earthy sparkling and dry to sweet fortified wines. This course will provide an overview of Spanish grape varietals, wine quality factors and appellation system, as well as explore in depth the main regions of Rioja, Ribera del Duero, Rias Baixas, Cava and Sherry. Recommended prerequisite: Fundamentals of Wine Studies. Please bring six clear wine glasses. Enrollment is restricted to persons 21 years of age or older. Refund deadline one week prior to start date.

Annette Hanami, CWE, AIWS, based in Napa Valley, CA holds the Diploma and the Advanced Certificate from the Wine & Spirit Education Trust and the Certified Wine Professional credential from the Culinary Institute of America. She is also accredited as an official instructor for the Spanish Wine Academy, the French Wine Academy, the Bordeaux Wine Council and the Rhone Wine Council.
