Uniform Building Codes (Section 1)

An elective course in the Certificate Program in Facilities Management.
Learn to use building codes to design safe and accessible environments and to create drawings that meet minimum plan checks requirements. Participants complete in-class exercises addressing ADA requirements, exiting requirements, occupancy groups, construction types, energy conservation as required by Title 24, and minimum standards for fire-retardant materials. Other topics covered include the evaluation of real estate principles using basic code analysis, and the validation of finance budgets using estimates. Prerequisite: SOCECOL X499.1, Facilities Design and Space Planning, or equivalent experience.

Ted S. Oyama, M.S.Engr., B.Arch., AIA, ICC, NCARB, manager of architecture with AEPC Group, LLC, has over 25 years of practical experience in architecture dealing with small to large complex projects. He brings commercial and industrial experience to the classroom which includes the latest building technologies, construction trends and building codes awareness. Oyama is currently a registered architect in 13 states.
