Personal Property Valuation: Report Writing (Section 1) ART HIS X400.2  (3)

A required course in the Certificate Program in Appraisal Studies in Fine and Decorative Arts.
Examine the components of a written appraisal report, identify appraisal report standards, and the methods required to prepare an appraisal document. Learn how to communicate an opinion of value and the reasons used to develop the conclusion are investigated in instructional formats that include lecture and in-class composition exercises. Produce a written appraisal report including a narrative that is logically constructed and consistent with standards of professional practice in valuing personal property for insurance coverage, estate division of property, liquidation, taxes or professional consultation. Utilize on-line market research and analyze market data to complete the individual appraisal materials from the previous courses. Prerequisite: Art History X400, Introduction to Personal Property Valuation and Art History X400.1, Personal Property Valuation: Methodology, Research and Analysis. Margaret Olsen, B.S., A.S.A. has been an appraiser for more than 30 years. Her American Society of Appraisers designations are Personal Property-Sports Collectibles and Memorabilia and Numismatics (coins and currency). She is an Education Consultant to Pratt Institute, a member of the UCI Advisory Committee, past ASA Personal Property Committee Education chair, Personal Property Committee member and member of the Board of Examiners. She has published articles about the appraisal profession, professional development, sports memorabilia, and co-authored "The Gold Book, A Guide to Commonly Traded Gold Bullion Coins and Bars" and "The Platinum and Palladium Buyer's Guide."
