A required course in the Paralegal Certificate Program.
Obtain a thorough understanding of the law and procedures involved in filing a civil action through the default phase. The course will cover pre-lawsuit issues which will include case assessment, client interviews, demand letters, jurisdiction, and statute of limitations. Understand the practical aspects of preparing and filing complaints, answers, various motions, and defaults. Gain a working knowledge of calendar time limits with regard to the practice of civil procedure. Completion of Fundamentals of Legal Assistantship is recommended prior to enrolling in this course.
