A required course in the Paralegal Certificate Program.
Explore the law and procedures in bringing cases to trial and collecting judgments on topics such as law and motion; summary judgment; trial setting procedures; arbitration and alternative dispute resolution; trial preparation and strategy; as well as judgments, post trial motions, and appeals. Prepare documents are participate in practical exercises. Civil Litigation I is required and students are strongly encouraged to take Civil Litigation II before this class.

William T. Tanner, J.D., is supervising attorney for the Legal Aid Society of Orange County where he oversees the Legal Aid Hotline, Low-Income Taxpayer Clinic, Small Claims Court Advisory Program of Orange County and I-CAN!, and supervises the training of approximately 30 law students and paralegals. Prior to joining Legal Aid, he worked at California Rural Legal Assistance where he represented seniors and migrant farm workers in civil matters. Mr. Tanner has taught Business Law, Real Estate Law, Legal Aspects of Real Estate, Property Law, Civil Litigation II, Civil Litigation III, Tort Law, and Ethics at UC Irvine Extension and MTSAC.
