Promoting Yourself--From Networking through the Interview (Section 1)

LINGUIS 840  (1.5 CEU)

In today's economy, the job market is more competitive than ever and can be an even greater challenge for non-native English speakers. Go beyond your already polished résumé and learn the art of how to write a persuasive cover letter, and be able to communicate in writing and in person your cross-cultural strengths to work with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds. You will learn how to define your skills and abilities, effective networking techniques including the subtle art of promoting yourself, how to use powerful English vocabulary, and tips to interview successfully. At the end of this course, you should have the skills and confidence to rise above the crowd and get the job.

Gail Schwartz-West, M.A. in TESOL, is a full-time instructor in the English & Certificates for Internationals Program. Schwartz-West has taught advanced conversation, business English, vocabulary building skills, and a TOEFL preparation course in the 10-Week Intensive ESL program at UC Irvine.
