An elective course in the Paralegal Certificate Program. Eligible participants will earn up to 30 hours of general MCLE credit based on attendance.
Explore the various dynamics relating to jurisdiction, marriage, divorce, custody, support, the division of property and debts, and pre-nuptial agreements. Discuss other domestic relation issues such as paternity, adoption, domestic violence, guardianships, and domestic partnerships. Gain an understanding of legal theory as well as the practical aspects of preparing correspondence, petitions, responses and other court documents. Acquire a working knowledge of calendar time limits with regard to the practice of family law.

Renato Izquieta, J.D., is a staff attorney in the litigation unit of the Legal Aid Society of Orange County. Mr. Izquieta has been an attorney for eight years and has experience over a wide range and complex areas of civil law. In 2000, Mr. Izquieta received the Outstanding Litigator award by his former employer, Inland Counties Legal Services. Mr. Izquieta has been an instructor with the UCI Paralegal Program for the last 5 years. In 2005, Mr. Izquieta received the Outstanding Instructor award by UCI Extension.
