The SQL Tuning Workshop class covers investigative methods that reveal varying levels of detail about how the Oracle database executes a SQL statement. Students learn the different ways in which data can be accessed, which ones are most efficient under specific circumstances, and how to ensure that the best method is used. Partitioning topics are covered, in addition to taking advantage of hints, bind variables, and different types of indexes. Topics are reinforced with hands-on practices.

Victor T. Wu, M.S., is a CTO and co-founder of EmpowerTrain, an Irvine-based company that offers high-end training on technologies including Oracle Database, Sun Solaris, Microsoft technologies. He has worked in the information systems field for the past 25 years as developer, information architect, director, and CIO. His expertise includes C++, Java programming, Oracle database and SQL Server development, high availability and performance tuning, Sun Solaris security and system tuning. He is frequently involved in large scale database and system tuning projects in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and San Diego. Wu is a UCLA graduate, Oracle Certified DBA, Oracle Certified Developer and holder of three Oracle Masters. Wu received UC Irvine Extension's Distinguished Instructor Award (2003) and UCLA Extension's Distinguished Instructor Award (2007).
