Introduction to Spa and Hospitality Operations (Section 1)

A required course in the Spa and Hospitality Management Certificate Program.
Examine the general operational and administrative procedures in spas, private clubs and the hospitality industry while developing an understanding of the unique sensitivities required in managing and operating in the increasingly evolving and complex spa industry. Explore business planning, marketing, licensures, compensation models, legal and ethical issues, billing, inventory control, privacy, and more. Learn guidelines for optimizing energy efficiency in facility operations including design, energy, and water and waste management issues. See enrollment confirmation for login information.

Julie Raistrick holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Physiology and a Masters of Science degree in Exercise Science. She has held positions as Health Club Manager for a variety of corporate health and wellness programs, Spa Director of a Day Spa, and most recently, the Spa Director for Montage in Laguna Beach, California. Julie has been working with Spa Montage for almost five years and have been a part of the organization's task forces for the past two years. She has had the opportunity to speak at industry conferences during her career in the area of Spa and Hospitality Management.

Valory Reed, Spa Director and Six Sigma Greenbelt at Mobil Four-Spa Gaucin located at the award-winning St. Regis Resort, Monarch Beach, has extensive experience in the hospitality / tourism industry, with a strong focus for marketing, revenue generation, staff development, and customer service. After serving as Project Manager for the 2002 Olympic Winter Games, Ms. Reed follwed her passion for luxury resorts and spas serving as Marketing Director and Spa Director in Park City, Utah and now in beautiful Dana Point, CA.. Notably, Ms. Reed was recently named Best Spa Director, 2008, by the readers of Spa Finder.
