Understanding Estate Planning (Section 1)

An elective course in the Paralegal Certificate Program. Eligible participants will earn up to 30 hours of general MCLE credit based on attendance.
This course provides an overview of the estate planning process. Various estate planning vehicles such as wills and trusts will be discussed. Taxes, charitable planning, intestate succession and other factors will be analyzed. This practical course will provide students with the opportunity to gather client information, apply the estate planning process and make determinations as to best practices to put into place from the time a prospective client walks in the door to discuss estate planning through the life of the plan. Ancillary documents such as HIPAA forms, Power of Attorney, and Advanced Care Directives will also be discussed.

Timothy Pickart, J.D., is an attorney focusing in the areas of estate and tax planning, trust administration, and business transactions. His has previously worked in the financial services and life insurance industries. Pickart has created and presented seminars on estate and tax planning and life insurance. He received his J.D. from Pepperdine University School of Law and his B.A. from Stanford University.
