Computer-Assisted Legal Research (Section 1)

An elective course in the Paralegal Certificate Program. Eligible participants will earn up to 9 hours of general MCLE credit based on attendance.
Develop the skills to conduct computer assisted legal research utilizing LEXIS-NEXIS and the Internet. Gain an understanding of how to formulate queries and obtain on-line information in an efficient and cost effective manner. By exploring state of the art technology and resources, students will gain a competitive edge in today's marketplace. Students will retrieve Federal and State case law and statutes, search news and information databases, shepardize cases, research public records and competitive intelligence information. Offered on a pass/no pass basis only. Completion of Legal Research is highly recommended prior to enrolling in this course. Course fee includes LEXIS- NEXIS and lab usage. Attendance at all meetings is mandatory. Eligible participants will earn up to 9 hours of general MCLE credit based on attendance.

John J. O'Donnell, M.L.S., J.D., received his law degree from a "top 40" law school. He has held positions at two well-regarded Orange County private colleges. O'Donnell has co-taught a course in Advanced Legal Research and was a contributing editor to a Copyright law book.
