Management, Leadership and Team Building in the Project and Program Environment (Section 2)

MGMT X474.9  (3)

A required course in the Certificate Program in Project Management. An elective in the Certificate Programs in Business Analyst and Web Intelligence.
This course is for those involved in projects, including project managers, project team members, and functional managers who interface with project teams. The success of projects is dependent not only upon the project management process itself, but also upon the people in the process and how effectively they work together and communicate with and influence clients, stakeholders, and each other. This course focuses on the project manager's role as both manager and leader, with particular emphasis on the competencies and skills associated with effective project leadership and what is required to develop and maintain a high-performance project team. Participants will address six principal topics (modules) as they relate to project teams: (1) management and leadership processes, including the role of the project team and the project team manager-leader; (2) team building; (3) communication, including conflict resolution; (4) motivation, including expectations and assumptions; (5) change, problem solving, and decision making; and (6) leadership. The course is highly participative and uses a variety of learning methods, including cases, simulations, exercises, instruments, and discussion. Prerequisite: Mgmt X442.28, Introduction to Project Management Principles and Practices. This course is approved for 29 PDUs from PMI. Refund deadline is May 7, 2009.
