Project Procurement Management: Contracting, Subcontracting, Teaming (Section 1)

A required course in the Certificate Program in Project Management and an elective in the Certificate Program in Management of Business Contracts.
Procurement management has become a vital project management skill, as organizations increasingly outsource all but their core competencies. In this course, you will understand the significance of procurement management in the modern project management environment and the role and duties of the procurement manager on a project team. Learn how to establish project scope/statement of work initiatives, develop a procurement management plan to monitor both cost type or fixed price contracts, select the proper contract type, define strategic teaming agreements, evaluate and select suppliers, and track supplier performance. The content of this course is fully compliant with the Project Management Institute's A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide) chapter on Project Procurement Management. Prerequisite: Mgmt X442.28, Introduction to Project Management Principles and Practices. If the potential participant has had significant experience managing projects, they may be allowed to waive the prerequisite requirement with the express permission of the instructor. This course is approved for 19 PDUs from PMI.

Mike DeMarco, MBA, PMP, is currently a senior project manager with the second largest utility in California. Prior to working as a project manager, Mr. DeMarco leveraged his Bachelors degree in workforce education and knowledge of nuclear power plant operations to teach personnel how to operate equipment in a nuclear power plant. Since completing his MBA from UC Irvine with an emphasis in finance, he has worked in progressive project management and financial analysis positions.

Dave Jacob, M.S., principal of Doren Associates, a management consulting company. His company provides services to corporate clients in the development of Project Management and Business Process Systems, Team Building and Staffing Strategies, and Training. He served as president of the Orange County Chapter of the Project Management Institute (PMI). in 1998, he was the recipient of the UCI Distinguished Instructor Award.
