Advanced PMBOK® Guide Applications (PMP Preparation Exam) (Section 1)

An elective in the Project Management Certificate Program.
This course is designed to combine all the topics that have been presented in the core project management classes. The content of this course is fully compliant with A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge 2007 (PMBOK® Guide). Participants will review the nine knowledge areas in the PMBOK® Guide and Professional Responsibility with a focus on understanding how to integrate the detailed project management processes. It is designed to help students assess their needs for advanced study. In addition, this course will prepare students to pass the PMP® Examination. The course includes exercises, practice questions and practice examinations to help students gauge their preparedness for the exam. There are also practical tips on applying for and taking the exam. Prerequisite: This is an advanced course that requires students have a broad knowledge of project management. Students must have completed a minimum of 35 hours of project management instruction, such as Management 442.28, Introduction to Project Management Principles and Practices or Management 442.12 in the UCI curriculum. Courses outside the UCI Project Management Program may be acceptable. In addition, students should meet PMP professional experience requirements, which are 4,500 hours of project management experience with a BA degree, or 7,500 hours without a BA degree. This course is approved for 24 PDUs from PMI. Students interested in taking the PMP Exam: PMI will be administering the PMP Exam based on the THIRD EDITION until June 30, 2009. After this date, PMI will be administering the PMP Exam based on the FOURTH Edition. This specific offering will require students to have the THIRD EDITION of the PMBOK® Guide. Students can purchase the THIRD EDITION of the PMBOK® Guide directly from PMI at http://www.pmi.org/marketplace.
