Special Education Law: K-12 Practices (Section 1) EDUC X372.77  (2)

Special Educational Law is a class designed to acquaint classroom teacher or aspiring administrators with the intricacies of law and policies as they pertain to special education. Specific changes in the reauthorization of IDEA 2004 will be examined along with proper procedures for developing and implementing appropriate Individualized Education Plans (IEP's). Melissa S Connors, JD, MBA, CAGS Sp Ed, has been an educator for over 20 years and an attorney for six years. She is currently a faculty member at the University of Phoenix and is the Director of Education at the F.L. Chamberlain School, a private therapeutic boarding and day school in Southeastern Massachusetts. Melissa acts as both the principal and special education administrator in her current position. Melissa supervises 40 educational staff and the entire academic program, including enrichment courses. She designs curriculum and assessment tools as well as developing individualized plans for each student. She has presented on the topic of Special Education Law at conferences and professional development seminars for several years and is a consultant/trainer in this area, among others. Melissa is currently a doctoral student completing her dissertation work for her Doctorate in Education (Ed.D.) in both Special Education and Educational Leadership at Nova Southeastern University.
