This course is designed to give students a firm foundation in basic administration of Oracle Database 11g. In this class, students learn how to install and maintain Oracle Database 11g. Students gain a conceptual understanding of the Oracle database architecture and how its components work and interact with one another. Students learn how to create an operational database and properly manage the various structures in an effective and efficient manner including performance monitoring, database security, user management, and backup/recovery techniques. Topics in this course include: Oracle database architecture, Oracle Net services, database storage structures, backup and recovery, data and concurrency, undo data, performance and database diagnostic. The lesson topics are reinforced with structured hands-on practices. Prerequisites: Oracle 11g: Introduction to SQL. See enrollment confirmation for login information.
Victor T. Wu, M.S., is a CTO and co-founder of EmpowerTrain, an Irvine-based company that offers high-end training on technologies including Oracle Database, Sun Solaris, Microsoft technologies. He has worked in the information systems field for the past 25 years as developer, information architect, director, and CIO. His expertise includes C++, Java programming, Oracle database and SQL Server development, high availability and performance tuning, Sun Solaris security and system tuning. He is frequently involved in large scale database and system tuning projects in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and San Diego. Wu is a UCLA graduate, Oracle Certified DBA, Oracle Certified Developer and holder of three Oracle Masters. Wu received UC Irvine Extension's Distinguished Instructor Award (2003) and UCLA Extension's Distinguished Instructor Award (2007).
