A required course for TESL.
Learn the most effective techniques for teaching English language learners. Explore current methods in English Language teaching in specific language skill areas such as listening, speaking, reading, writing, pronunciation, vocabulary development and grammar, with emphasis placed on communicative teaching techniques and theories. Discover textbooks, audio-visual aids, instructional techniques and evaluation procedures for ESL learners at various levels, including those in elementary, secondary, college, and adult programs. Recommended prerequisite: Linguistics X416, Theories of
Second Language Acquisition.
Lesley Clear, Ph.D., is an educational consultant to UC Irvine Extension. Ms. Clear has been an ESL instructor in Japan and Hungary and an EFL teacher trainer in Hungary, Ukraine, Chile and Argentina. She received the 1996-1997 UCI Extension Distinguished Instructor Award, and UCI Extension's Distinguished Service Award in 2004.
