Service Learning Abroad
Information below is for 2010. Please check back in November for 2011 program details.
No matter where you go, you will be engaged in a Service Learning Project with a group of like-minded participants from all over the world. You will be more than a tourist- you will become an active global citizen by contributing your energy on projects that truly make a difference. You can choose a Service Learning Project in a developing country such as Thailand, Ecuador or the Dominican Republic; or you may find yourself in the Australian Outback for an intimate experience working with local people to build a school or to preserve the environment.
Volunteer Possibilities
Here are just some of the exciting volunteer possibilities that you can experience:
- Save a Kangaroo in Australia or an Elephant in Thailand!!
As a wildlife rescue and rehabilitation volunteer, you can help conserve native animals in a relatively natural setting and also teach others about how humans can better interact with these wonderful creatures.
- Preserve Unique Landscapes in Costa Rica or New Zealand!
You can help restore important habitats through native re-vegetation (planting) and exotic species removal. Also help local residents protect natural areas such as National Parks, beaches and reserves.
- Build a School and Teach Children in the Dominican Republic or Equador!
Help educate children who have no access to everyday resources like books, pencils, and teachers. Teach English, Math, Geography and Sciences to rural children and facilitate understanding and appreciation in a wonderful environment of cultural exchange.
Please note that you will not enroll in a Service Learning Project through UCI. UCI does not endorse any specific organization or project. You will only enroll in the online course through UCI, which contains a required Service Learning abroad component.
