EDUC X414: Developing Materials for an Asynchronous Online Course (3.0 Units)

Course Description
This course introduces UC Irvine Extension instructors to the skills needed to develop instructionally designed materials for an online asynchronous course. The course also introduces the most commonly used functions of the UCI Distance Learning Center delivery platform.

After completing this course, you will be able to:

  • Plan the schedule of your work to develop the materials for an online course.
  • Plan the interactive functions that you will use in your online course.
  • Write a detailed syllabus for your online course.
  • Develop three ways of evaluating student performance online.
  • Write a sample lesson for your own online course.
 

EDUC x895: Online Instructor Training (1.0 CEU)

Course Description
This 2-week, fully online course is an intensive experience to introduce both experienced and novice distance learning instructors to the pedagogies and best practices in facilitating an online course. The course utilizes the UC Irvine online course delivery platform, called "Moodle," which is the platform instructors and faculty who teach online for UCI will use in their own courses. The focus of the course is on structuring the online classroom, creating an environment which fosters peer interaction, generating engaging discussion questions, facilitating team projects, and giving timely feedback to learners.

After completing this course, you will be able to:

  • Set up an online course in Moodle
  • Create a compelling learning environment
  • Use various Moodle tools
  • Run effective discussion forums
