About Instructional Technology
The Instructional Technology department provides advanced computing resources for educational purposes in UC Irvine Extension lab facilities and all Extension classrooms located in Irvine and Orange. We provide full technical support for all of the networked computer workstations, and the lab printers, servers and data networks available for your use in all of our labs and classrooms.
Locations
UCI Extension, main campus:
PC Lab "C" — PC lab with 30 stations
UCI Learning Center in Orange:
Room 201 — PC lab with 30 stations
Room 202 — PC lab with 30 stations
Pre-Installed Software
We provide a suite of "Standard Programs" in all PC labs including Microsoft Office and Internet Explorer running on Windows XP, which are automatically installed each quarter. Custom software installations for specialized computer science, engineering and business courses are also available — subject to planning manager approvals.
Custom Software
We produce custom installations and load software images on lab workstations every quarter, so advance planning is essential for your required software to be available on time and functioning in accordance with your specifications.
Help us prepare in advance by following the requirements below:
- Please contact your planning manager to determine the availability and cost feasibility of specific software applications you may need for upcoming courses.
- If approved, you'll need to fill out a software request form (available from your planning manager) with specific installation details for each application required for your upcoming course. Please be as detailed as possible to help avoid guesswork on our part.
- We must receive the software request at least 8 weeks or more prior to the start date of each academic quarter for new, new version or beta software, and 4 or more weeks in advance for any software we are currently using.
- We highly encourage all instructors who will be using custom software installations to test the software in the lab prior to the first class meeting to confirm a complete and proper setup, and proper operation.
- Please note on your software request if you would like to test the installation and we'll contact you when it's ready to arrange a convenient time.

Standard Lab Equipment
All labs have a ceiling mounted overhead projector connected to the instructor station, a black and white laser printer, and a file server (read/write for instructors, read only for students).
Internet Access
All Extension UCI campus and Learning Center, Orange labs and classrooms have high speed Internet access at all stations.
Laptop Computers For Classrooms
We provide several laptop computers that are available for Extension classroom use. All have Microsoft Office and Internet Explorer software, and are Internet capable. Please contact your program manager or order online to reserve one for a class meeting. Data projectors can also be reserved for use with a laptop by contacting your program manager. Instructors using a personal laptop in one of our classrooms are required by UCI computing services (NACS) to "register" your laptop to enable an Internet connection. For assistance with "registering" for the Internet, or any other technical laptop questions or problems, please contact Instructional Technology at (949) 824-2144.
Technical Support
The Instructional Technology (ITECH) department maintains all computer software, hardware, printers, servers and networks in our labs and 25 smart classrooms, and will be happy to assist you with any problems or questions with the equipment or application functionality.
If you have any questions concerning hardware or software for laptops or computer labs, please contact us:
