Policies

Class Schedule and Hours

  • Classes must be held as scheduled and advertised in the UC Irvine Extension catalog.
  • Make sure classes begin on time and continue for the full period. Students expect the full amount of class time for which they have paid.
  • If unforeseen circumstances arise requiring that a class meeting be canceled or changed, notify the program manager to avoid scheduling conflicts and to ensure room availability.
  • The registration office is responsible for notifying students of the date, time and location changes by mail if time permits. Otherwise, students are contacted by phone.

Office Hours - Meeting with Your Students

  • It may be difficult to formally schedule times to meet with your students.
  • You are strongly urged to meet with students either before class, during break, or after class.
  • Provide students with a telephone number and times when you can be reached.
  • If a student calls UC Irvine Extension for your phone number, it will not be released, but we will notify you that a student would like you to call them.

Waiting Lists

  • Waiting lists are created for limited enrollment classes that are full.
  • We strictly honor the order of waiting lists.
  • You will be provided with a copy of the waiting list. Please comply with our waiting list policy and offer enrollment to students in the order listed.
  • Please refer to the UC Irvine Extension Quarterly Catalog for additional enrollment information.

Attendance

  • You may wish to take weekly attendance.
  • If class attendance is part of the criteria for a course grade, please keep a written record of individual participation.

Holidays and Make-Up Meetings

  • Inform your program manager immediately to arrange a time and room for a makeup session.
  • Do not reschedule a meeting yourself as your room may not be available.
  • Inform your class at least two meetings in advance of holidays and make-up meetings.
  • University policy regarding religious holidays permits any student to undergo an exam without penalty at a time when it will not violate the student's religious beliefs.
  • (Exceptions exist only when administering an exam at an alternate time would impose undue hardship or could not reasonably be avoided.)

Cancellation of Courses

  • Due to budgetary constraints, each course must have a minimum number of paid enrollees. This number will vary depending on the cost and nature of the program.
  • Courses may be visited by a UC Irvine Extension representative to check attendance.
  • Low enrollment classes may meet a second time only if agreed to by the instructor and program manager.
  • No additional compensation is paid if the course still must be discontinued.
  • Students may request a transfer or full refund.
