Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) Professional Seminar

Overview

Teaching today has numerous challenges both inside and outside of the classroom. As a current teacher, you must be skilled in appropriately using the internet and technology in the classroom, provide a nurturing and positive classroom climate, learn how to enhance a student's motivation, and design the curriculum to meet the needs of your students and the standards of your school.

Whether you teach children, teenagers, or adults, this seminar will provide you practical skills and increase your confidence in the classroom as you learn the latest developments in the field. There will be ample time to experience the culture and social diversity of Southern California – a first-hand opportunity to share with your students – while networking with other professionals in the field.

Who Should Attend

The TEFL Professional Seminar is designed for current teachers of English or teachers in other content areas who have a minimum of two years of teaching experience.

• Tuition: $2,095

(A minimum score of TOEFL PBT 500, iBT 61, TOEIC 600, IELTS 5.0 is required for admission to this program. A current resume and two letters of recommendation from a person in an educational institution are also required.)

Curriculum

  Learn how to teach using current practical applications of Task-Based Language Learning, Cooperative Learning, Lexical Approach, Multiple Intelligences, Whole Language, Total Physical Response and other relevant communicative methods.
• Effectively Using Technology to Teach English as a Foreign Language
  Learn how to successfully integrate past, current and emerging technologies into your lessons.
• Advanced Skills of Classroom Management
  Learn the classroom management skills necessary to free the teacher to focus on quality instruction rather than disciplinary problems.
• Teaching English as a Foreign Language to the Young Learner (K-12)
  Learn how to deliver efficient and effective lessons to children learning English as a foreign language.
• Teaching Practicum
  Practice what you have learned in classroom situations with Microteaching activities with instructor and peer feedback. Observe and gain insight from master teachers in classroom settings.
