International Graduate Studies Preparation Program
Support Services
Students in IGSPP may expect the following support services:
- Information about UCI’s educational programs, academic standards, and other information to assist students in achieving their short- and long-term educational goals.
- Information about UCI Extension housing options, transportation, health insurance, and other support services to ensure that students are fully informed about their options.
- Airport pick-up (UC Irvine Extension must receive arrival information 2 weeks prior to arrival; $70 fee charged for pick-up from Los Angeles International (LAX) Airport, $40 from John Wayne-Orange County (SNA) Airport).
- An orientation that will cover academic and administrative matters.
- Ongoing academic advising and monitoring for each student. UC Irvine Extension will provide assistance to IGSPP students on administrative matters such as housing, immigration, transportation, and other matters. The designated IGSPP advisor will advise students on research and professional direction; monitor academic progress; and address issues regarding cultural adjustment and living arrangements, health, and general well-being. Such advisors will be available by appointment during business hours for the duration of the program. The designated IGSPP advisor may recommend or provide tutoring for up to 10 hours per quarter per student on an as-needed basis. The content of the tutoring is limited to English language and/or study skills.
- A non-credit 20-hour course on American and academic culture designed to help IGSPP students adjust to and understand their environment. This course will teach adaptation strategies, academic success skills, and UC Irvine resource optimization.
- A series of workshops specially designed to assist students with their graduate application
- 30-40 hour GRE or GMAT and 30-hour iBT TOEFL test preparation courses.
- A series of special events and programs during IGSPP. Such events will include a welcoming ceremony and meal, a departure (“graduation”) ceremony and meal, and at least one other event per term. In addition, where appropriate, students will be included in international student activities with the goal of integrating them into the academic and social fabric of the campus.
