MODERN DANCE (AH 106)
AH 106 MODERN DANCE
The birth of modern dance coincides with the start of the 20th Century, as artists embraced new technologies and approaches to art. In our first session, we will examine the work of American pioneers, including Isadora Duncan and Loie Fuller, and German creators like Kurt Jooss and Rudolf von Laban. In the second session, we will explore site-specific choreography, where dances are inspired by and performed in natural or urban settings --- a very different process from traditional theatrical performance, influencing the relationship between performers and audiences. In both sessions we will view examples of dance performances.
Presenter: Deidre Cavazzi, M.F.A., teaches dance history/techniques at Saddleback and Mira Costa colleges. She is artistic director/choreographer for ArchiTexture Dance Company, a site-specific dance company based in Orange County.
