AH 109 FRENCH CONNECTION
Ooh ~ la ~ la ~ A series of cultural delights!

Week 1 Tuesday, November 24
The history and mystery of French Cuisine We promise your mouths will water just hearing about the various signature dishes from the many regions of France. Add to this the history of French cooking and you'll ask for more.
Presenter: Sylvain Touati, connoisseur par excellance, has traveled the food world by way of his own hotel affiliations, roasting coffee, making spices, and eating French cuisine, with all it has to offer, at one time or another.

Week 2 Tuesday, December 1
François Truffaut, a major filmmaker, screenwriter, producer and occasional actor, he was one of the founders of the French New Wave who remains an icon in the French film industry. We will also peek into the life of Cedric Klapisch, a new French film star. Presenter: Monique Saigal, PhD, is a professor of French at Pomona College. She teaches French literature, French films and French culture. In her most popular class, French 102: Paris: Myth or Reality, students study the Resistance and create a web page on poetry, photography, painting or music.

Week 3 Tuesday, December 8
Pierre Ambroise François Choderlos de Laclos, a novelist, official and army general, known for Les Liaisons dangereuses, a unique epistolary literary novel and considered to be as scandalous a writer as the Marquis de Sade or Nicolas Edme Retif.
Presenter: James Steintrager, PhD, earned his doctorate in Comparative Literature from Columbia and currently teaches at UCI. His latest book is Cruel Delight: Enlightenment Culture and the Inhuman.

Week 4 Tuesday, December 15
Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, an Impressionist painter, printmaker and illustrator whose immersion in the colorful and theatrical Parisian life yielded an oeuvre of exciting, provocative images of the modern and often decadent life of his times.
Presenter: Jeanne S. M. Willette, PhD, is Associate Professor of Art History at Otis College of Art & Design in L.A. and popular OLLI presenter known for her knowledge and high energy. In the art community, she lectures, critiques, and writes extensively.
