HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE ON IMPRESSIONISM (AH 112)
AH 112 HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE ON IMPRESSIONISM
This four-session course presents the rise of the Impressionist Movement in 19th Century France. Parisian architecture, commissioned by Louis Napoleon III, known to this day as the City of Lights, will be in focus. We will learn how the emerging science, within the turbulent political climate of the French/Prussian War of 1870, affected the painters' collective views and art production. The series will discuss the lives and works of 15 major Impressionists including Courbet, Manet, Monet, Renoir, Sisley, Pissaro and Bazille, as well as the influence of the "School of Argenteuil" and "Ecole du Midi" which included Van Gogh and Gauguin.
Presenter: Patricia Busch has a B.A. in History from UCI and a Master of Science in Education. She is a former Associate Professor at Concordia University for International Students and docent at the Bowers Museum. Currently, she is a volunteer at the Getty in Los Angeles.
