A NEW VISION AND CHALLENGE FOR OLDER ADULTS (SS 308)
SS 308 A New Vision and Challenge for Older Adults
Consider conversations about anything in American life today-education, relationships, the workplace, health care, public civility, morality, arts and culture, parenting, social policy. Do they include the voice and view, the experience and expertise, the integrity and authenticity of the older adult? Dr. Binder draws upon social science, humanistic teachings and spiritual traditions to present a new vision and challenge for older adults in a new century.
Week 1: Beginning, Becoming & Being
By following lifespan growth and development, we learn how to plant the mature roots of older adult experience, wisdom and resources into the fertile soil of tomorrow.
Week 2: The Human Narrative
It is in our essential humanity to communicate. Can you be a catalyst for the renaissance of the oral tradition and repair the damage done to the American culture through "destorification?"
Week 3: Becoming a 21st Century American Healer
Science has added years to life, but we need to develop ways of adding life to our years. A pivotal challenge is to lead the way to intergenerational peace and harmony.
Presenter: Jerry Binder has presented earlier versions of these ideas before at OLLI, quite successfully to full enrollment. Since that time, he has further researched this area and has added a lot of additional inspiring information.
