GREAT BOOKS DISCUSSIONS (AH 114)
AH 114 GREAT BOOKS DISCUSSIONS
This class follows the Great Books Foundation's Shared Inquiry Method that promotes an egalitarian approach. Discussion is based only on the specific text at hand. The attempt is made to keep the conversation free from tangents about outside materials unfamiliar to the entire group. We discuss texts to discover what they tell us about our world and ourselves.
Each session will be devoted to the discussion of an essay, play, or narrative by
one of the following writers in order listed: Chekhov, Plato, Conrad, Marx, The Bible, Rousseau, Darwin, Shakespeare, Hume, Tocqueville, Simmel, and Sophocles. You are encouraged to register for twelve sessions but may register for the first six or the second six and be accommodated as space permits.
Course Developer / Study Leader: Doug Brown
Cost: Textbooks cost about $30 and include all the selections and questions, which serve as the basis for discussion. To order directly, call The Great Books Foundation at 1-800-222-5870 or go to the website: www.greatbooks.org. The series is designated ADU-001.
