Political, economic, and cultural news from Russia and the former republics of the Soviet Union needs always to be considered in light of Russia's history and how it still affects that Russian world today. We will return to a slow overview of Russia's history with the First World War. Also current challenges to the evolving state institutions and the economies of these countries will be examined.
