SE 3 SCRIPPS INSTITUTION OF OCEANOGRAPHY
An OLLI Fund-Raising Bus Trip
Scripps Institution of Oceanography is one of the oldest, largest, and most important centers for ocean science research and education in the world. Research at Scripps encompasses physical, chemical, biological, and geophysical studies of the oceans, atmosphere, and Earth.
In the morning, a Birch Aquarium docent will lead us on a tour of the tanks displaying fascinating marine life, from sharks and seahorses to corals in more than sixty habitats. Then we will participate in a special hands-on session in a private "discovery" lab where we will observe, touch, and learn about intertidal and kelp forest inhabitants from an experienced instructor.
After lunch we will be treated to a tour of two non-public research facilities, the Scripps Pier and the experimental aquarium lab.
NOTE: Lunch will be on your own at either of two cafes near the Scripps campus.
