SELECTIONS FROM UCI'S ARTISTS' BOOKS COLLECTION (SE 11)
SE 11 SELECTIONS FROM UCI'S ARTISTS' BOOKS COLLECTION
Words, colors, marks, images, negative space can be presented in altered, sculptural, painted, or other unique ways. Joan Lyon's seminal work on the subject suggests that artists' books constitute a new perceptual literature that alters the concept of authorship and which manipulates page, format, and content into a new discourse within the printed page. Intrigued?
UCI has a collection of almost 500 such books. In this collection, they generally fall into three categories: books by and about women, books with contemporary political content, and books from Latin America. Our presenter will show us 15-25 of the best of these.
Presenter: Stephen Macleod is a Public Services Librarian in Special Collections and Archives and is responsible for instruction, outreach and reference services.
