UC Irvine Extension Offering New Business, Management Courses

UC Irvine Extension is offering several new business and management courses, workshops and seminars for the spring quarter. They include:

"Building a Project-Driven Enterprise," meeting Friday and Saturday, March 30 and 31, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in rooms 110-111, University Extension C, on the UC Irvine campus.

Topics include organizational and functional issues, balancing of resource constraints between operations and project organizations and the division of roles and responsibilities between functional and project groups.

The instructor will be Ronald Mascitelli, president of Technology Perspectives, whose clients include Lockheed-Martin, Harris Corp., Edison International, GM Delphi, Hughes Electronics, and LSI Logic.

Fee: $240.

"Achieving Successful Change in Organizations," meeting Mondays, April 2 through June 11, from 7 to 10 p.m. in room 14, Rowland Hall.

The course focuses on planning and implementing change with an emphasis on the role of leadership and the competency and skills required of individuals who initiate, manage and are affected by change.

The instructor is Maryam Malek, president of Corporate Development Consultants.

Cost: $325.

"Essentials of Marketing Beyond the Four Ps," meeting Tuesdays, April 3 through June 5, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. in room 188, Rowland Hall.

The course will cover how and when to use promotional tools to build the foundation of a marketing program, what is needed to create advertising that grabs the market, sales promotions that stimulate interest and public relations that create a positive image and build rapport with the media.

The instructor is Susan C. Soloman, executive director of marketing for Memorial Health Services.

Fee: $370 (includes case studies).

"Software Application for the Legal Environment," meeting Tuesdays, April 3 through June 5, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. in room 217, Humanities Hall.

The course will cover the basic computer skills needed for law office applications. Students will receive hands-on knowledge of personal computer hardware, operating systems as well as software packages, including MS Windows, WordPerfect, Word, Explore/Netscape, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook/Email and products for litigation support, docketing and calendar management.

Students are requested to bring two blank 3 1/2-inch double-sided density diskettes for hands-on exercises.

The instructors are Kathleen Houts Miller of Rutan & Tucker, and Jon Montgomery, and Paul Hastings of Janofsky & Walker.

Fee: $275.
