UC Irvine Summer Extension Courses

This summer UC Irvine will offer a new summer program with a wide range of classes and interest. The classes will range from the Arts and Humanities, Design & Digital Arts, Special Education Needs, Career Development and many more.
On July 11 to August 22, from 7:00 to 9:30 p.m., a History of Photography: A Survey of Artistic and Technical Evolution will be offered. Through slide lectures and discussion, as well as a small research project, you will trace the history of photography by examining specific photographers and aesthetic movements within a historical context. You will gain the skills to analyze photographs for their aesthetic, conceptual and historical significance. Fee is $295.
Or have you ever wanted to illustrate childrenÕs picture books, possibly one you yourself have written but you werenÕt sure how to go about it? Then Illustrating ChildrenÕs Picture Books is the course you should take on July 9 through August 6. Fee is $265.
In the Design & Digital Arts Game Design class you will gain an understanding of the fundamentals of game design including interface, level design, storyboarding, and creating characters. Discover what the role of the designer is. Create a basic design document and develop a level that demonstrates your game design ideas. Fee is $475.
The Special Needs Child in the Regular Classroom Setting explores educational, organizational, and behavioral interventions within the regular classroom setting for students who are having difficulties in this setting. Discuss pre-intervention meeting strategies, which are designed to focus early attention to student learning, organizational and behavioral problems. Fee is $180.
Teaching Critical Thinking to Gifted Students. Explore the questioning techniques and methods used to enhance and prompt critical, creative and logical thinking for a gifted student. Use these strategies in either the integrated classroom or the specialized GATE program. Fee is $180.

Developing New Web Services, MicrosoftÕs .NET strategy centers on the concept of providing software applications as web services. This course focuses on this concept and how to design, develop, and deploy basic web services. You will learn how to incorporate web services in your own applications solutions by accessing them through existing Internet standards. Fee is $695.
Living Well and Understanding the Male and Female Psyche. Mean and women often have difficulty understanding and appreciating the value of each otherÕs differences and needs. In this seminar, discover how men and women have different ways of processing information, viewing the world, prioritizing, setting values, processing emotions and communicating. Fee is $95.
