UC Irvine Graduates First Class in Appraisal Studies

As part of ASA's continuing effort to
make education in appraisal studies more accessible, the
University of California, Irvine, was added to the roster
of ASA-approved universities offering the series of Personal Property
courses needed toward an Accredited Senior Appraiser designation.
In addition to offering ASA?s four core Personal Property courses in appraisal studies,
UC Irvine also offers connoisseurship courses.
University and ASA faculty members presented courses in fine arts,
oriental carpets, Asian arts, decorative jewelry, insurance and
photography.
Margaret A, Olsen, ASA, Personal Property Education Committee chair, has worked to
standardize the education provided to Personal Property appraisal
candidates for the program at UC Irvine and for another program offered
through the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) in Providence, R.I. Other
instructors for the programs include Senior Vice President Larry D.
Phillips, ASA*; Deane Fehrman, ASA; Bernard Ewell, ASA; Erica
Voogd-Phillips, ASA; Guido T. Muzzarelli, ASA; Nancy A. Martin, ASA; Nancy
Stacy, ASA; Frederick L. Iusi, FASA; Mona L. Miller-Smith, ASA; Holly A.
Mitchem, ASA; Karen Holtzman, ASA; Carol O'Brien English, ASA; Sharon A.
Smith-Theobald, ASA; Louise T. Hall, ASA; Charles T. Rosoff, ASA; and
Sandra J. Tropper, ASA, who each brought their years of practical
experience to he appraisal studies program and greatly contributed to its
success.
Instrumental in establishing the program was Kirwan Rockefeller, Ph.D., director of
the UC Irvine program. Both UC Irvine and RISD graduated
students this summer in their respective programs. The first class of
students in the UC Irvine program graduated on June 17, 2003. The
graduates completed all courses required to earn a certificate in
appraisal studies issued by UCI.
Graduating on June 17 and receiving certificates in appraisal studies were Marianne
Bedford, Joy Berus, Paul Cullen, Jo Desmond, Paul Drooks, Victor Koman,
Joseph Manning, John McClosky, Karin Schnell, Linda Strack, Elaine Swift
and Dee Wright.
Head of the Appraisal Studies program at RISD, Holly Begley, informs that the
following three students graduated from the RISD program on June 10, 2003:
Erica Barrish, Richard Conti and Edward
Stanley.
