UC Irvine Announces Communications Systems Design Engineering Certificate Program

New Certificate Program Enables Students and Professionals To Keep Up With Modern Day Communication

IRVINE, Calif. – July 10, 2008 – To meet the needs of professionals within the field of design engineering, the University of California, Irvine has announced the addition of a technical certificate program titled, “Communications Systems Design Engineering.” This 3-month program is designed for international engineering and technical professionals, information systems professionals, and students who want to develop a comprehensive understanding of communications engineering principles and practices. A 3-month internship in the heart of the ‘tech coast’ of Southern California is also an available option.

The continued need for robust communications systems is universal with increased communications applications for data, voice, and video. The Accelerated Certificate Program (ACP) in Communications Systems Design Engineering provides comprehensive knowledge on current and emerging technologies in the design and development of communications-based networks and systems. The certificate program addresses advances in electronics computing, networking and wireless technologies.

“Our ACP in Communications Systems Design Engineering is designed to prepare international engineering professionals and students with a comprehensive understanding of all of the different modern day communication systems,” said Angelika Volkman, director of English & Certificates for Internationals at UC Irvine. “With a uniquely tailored curriculum, our program presents opportunities for professionals to enter this field with a systems engineering approach to their organizations.”

Participants will develop a system engineering approach to their individual organization’s communications engineering development process, gain knowledge needed in the design and development of modern day communications systems and learn how to describe, analyze and design practical communication systems.

The Communications Systems Design Engineering Certificate Program will be offered every September and January. The next program will begin Sept. 19, 2008 and courses will include:

  • Systems Requirements Engineering
  • Introduction to Communications and Networking
  • Communications Systems Design
  • Principles of Wireless Electronic Systems
  • DSP Fundamentals, Modeling and Analysis
  • C Programming for Embedded Systems
  • Fundamentals of Embedded Systems Design and Programming
